Subaru Presents The New Ascent & Sponsors SAMA's February 2019 Luncheon

SAMA’s first meeting of the year got off to a great start with an enlightening presentation from Subaru officials, formal introduction of new officers and board members along with some housekeeping items and a plea to help brighten the day for some young cancer patients.

Coming off their 50th anniversary, Subaru folks were on hand to show off their new Ascent SUV and restyled Forester. A familiar face, Dominick Infante, director of corporate communications was joined by Peter Tenn, car line planning manager, and Jessica Tullman, public relations.

The Ascent replaces the outgoing Tribeca and becomes the company's leader in SUV innovations with an attractive exterior and a plethora of interior refinements to compete in this crowded segment. Tenn discussed how the company uses functionality in bringing new features to its lineup.

Capitalizing on the company's off-road chops, the Ascent features a refined symmetrical all-wheel-drive, a rigid global platform and 8.7 inches of ground clearance for off-pavement maneuvering.Pop the hood and you might think the engine is misplaced, Tenn said. Actually its low mount provides greater stability for the new power plant — a 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer engine. The fourth generation Forester, also on hand for the day at the Rusty Pelican, features new styling inside and out, new framework offering greater rigidity, an extra wide cargo opening, stand out sport trim, tops in visibility and a full suite of safety features.A timely announcement shared by Infante during lunch had Consumer Reports naming the company a Top Brand for 2019. Kudos to all at Subaru.

A big thank you to our Subaru sponsors for making the February meeting a success.Newly elected president Paul Borden recognized Daniel Alvarez, vice-president, Woodie Lesesne, secretary and, of course, Marcello Serrato as treasurer and chairman of the membership committee. He also introduced new board members’ Jaime Florez, Maria Ravani and Jonathan Brownfield.

Paul announced a tentative date of May 23 for SAMA's Topless in Miami annual event. More information to follow.

If you have not yet renewed your 2019 association dues, Marcello asks that you forward a check to him within the next two weeks. You know the adage “... better to give than receive."

Here's your chance to do something nice and receive the gratitude that comes from helping others. Bill Adam said that a car show is scheduled Saturday, March 16, at the Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida main campus in Kendall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Adam encouraged our membership to come out for the event and be on hand to talk with approximately 60 youthful patients age 5-15 undergoing treatment at the state of the art facility.Whether you can attend or not, Adam is asking everyone to collect appropriate items for placement in Goodie Bags. We have all received similar Goodie Bags with a variety of content at various auto events across the country so you are probably familiar with needed content.Contact Paul Borden or Bill Adam with any questions and to donate items.

Our next meeting will be March 21.
